In Yarrvek, a port town in Milandir, a Berokene elorii craftsman has had his shop burned to the ground. The elorii levels accusations at a pair of Encali dwarves who recently set up shop in the area, selling the same kind of instruments. The Milandisian citizens of the town have no desire to side with either group. Though not xenophobic, this is clearly “someone else’s problem.”

The Heroes enter the scene witnessing a public confrontation between the two, mere days after the shop burns down.

If they choose to get involved, they can side with either one, seeking to determine the guilt or innocence of the dwarves. Otherwise, they can search independently for clues.

What really happened: A newly formed cult of Yarricite heretics are seeking to summon and control creatures of the sea through music. The Berokene’s instruments were presumed to have just the right resonance, so a group of them broke in, stole some of the finest, and burned the place down to cover their tracks. The cult members are all locals, cheerful and friendly enough by day. With some investigation, the cult can be discovered and ambushed, though not before they manage to call some great creature (perhaps a crab?) from the Bay of Yarris.
