Being a dutiful daughter of the Mother Church (at least in public), would I be hurt by Righteous Edict, Channelling etc?
I just happen to be heretical due to our goddess being deceased…

If you are Mother Church you should still be safe from Mother Church casters even if many would raise eyebrows if you started telling stories oh Liani. The Mother Church still has stories about the Gentlest Member of the Pantheon which was eaten by Umor.
January 12, 2014 at 6:48 pm #255129AnonymousInactiveIt is a really interesting question.
The concept of Lianii being eaten by Umor is not in Mother Church doctrine…though according to the oral traditions of the val’Cessari, it actually happened. The Inquisitiorial arm of the Mother Church would deem it heretical if anybody spread the word of it. But if it indeed happened, would a ‘smite’ actually work, especially if the Gods bestowing the ‘smite spell’ know the truth. We know that the Mother Church wants to keep Lianni swept under the rug….but what about the gods themselves?

Liani is indeed part of the Pantheon and is looked upon as a victim/martyr who was destroyed by the abomination of the Other/One Who Must Not be Named (Umor is what the elorii called him).
As such, she is known but not really venerated by the Mother Church, i.e. no priests are tasked with spreading Her word, except for the High Holiday known as “Ascendere” or the Festival of the One Thousand Victories, where the triumph of the Pantheon over the Other and the elorii gods as well the ascendency of Man over Arcanis (slightly an over exaggeration, but you know…)
So in other words, no – smite or that type of Cant would not affect val’Cessari.

January 15, 2014 at 1:29 am #255258AnonymousInactiveFurther question (similar to the Ghost Scale issue).
What is the Favoured Skill, Weapon and Armour of Lianna? And are Devout talents available?
Also does Divine Spell Casting have the same ‘redirection’ that elemental Elorii are forced to use? Or is DSC right out for Lianna?
January 15, 2014 at 2:24 am #255262AnonymousInactiveMy guess is that none of those are applicable because, despite being part of the Pantheon, she is not worshipped since she is “dead”. (The quotes are because Henry is a tricksy man with who knows what stories tucked inside his devious mind). Thus, the church would not develop favored weapons, armor, or specific cants for her worship.

Agreed.
Also remember that that the Mother Church and its derivatives (Khitani, Canceri, M.O.C.) all stem from the convocation of the divine where the individual temples did a partial reintegration within the refereeing of the Mother Church authority. There would have been no Temple to Liani so there is no favored skill or armor proficiency.
