Is the val’Vasik bloodline an option for val’Holryn PCs with the val’Vasik cert?

I really hope the answer is no, simply because that would end up telling us something very interesting about the val’Holryn and the val’Vasik.

I don’t see why you couldn’t, but of course I’m no one important.

As I recall Xabal created the line after the Godswall went up. Since the val’Holryn predate that I think the answer is no. But like Akira I’m no one official, but also curious to see what that answer might be. Especially since I often play val’Holryn.

Again, no one official, but I would say the answer is no for a few reasons.

    1. The val’Vasik were a Kickstarter option. To allow for the val’Holryn to be able to use their bloodline abilities would I expect feel like a letdown to the people who paid for them.
    2. I don’t recall that the val’Vasik bloodline abilities are published anywhere. Without documentation available to all players attempting to use the bloodline abilities seems outside the rules.
    3. From a story perspective if the val’Holryns have been manifesting the val’Vasik bloodline abilities I think that would have raised questions a long time ago about what family line they were manifesting.

With a sweep of his hat,

    Paul

    Hello Paul,

Is the val’Vasik bloodline an option for val’Holryn PCs with the val’Vasik cert?

No, that is not an option. Sorry.

I didn’t think so, for the storyline reasons, but since I was asked, I figured I would get an official answer. It was actually story ramifications that piqued my curiosity when it was brought before me.

For reference, Henry has also stated that players cannot take Ul Bloodlines with the val’Holryn, and their powers seem to be restricted to the “Big 13”.

I guess it’s time to rebuild Eryk (not hard since he’s 1.1 with all of 3 mods under his belt so far and has only used his val ability once). I knew val’Holryn could not take Ul powers but assumed (incorrectly) that val’Vasik was legal (being val). Partly I just didn’t have any other use for the val’Vasik cert I bought. We’ll see if Eryk becomes val’Vasik (more changes) or simply stays val’Holryn and changes his power set…

The Val Holryn cannot (as I understand it) emulate powers of bloodlines that have come out after their “creation.” They only emulate bloodlines that were there when they were created. So the Val Vasik are obviously out. But the public doesn’t know when the Val H were created…in some other cases with other rarer bloodlines it’s a more interesting question.

So goes the story, but I still have my doubts. After all, we know that the ul’Shi and val’Tai were contemporaries of the first references to the val’Holryn (the first historical reference to the val’Holryn happens during the Theocracy of the Cleansing Flame, and these two families were First Imperium families). They still could have been founded after, though this would mean the val’Holryn were founded during the First Imperium, and may even be part of the ‘first founding’ of Val families.

If we had rules for ul powers I think it’s possible that they would be fair game for Val Holryn PCs. Ditto something like the Val Haupt. But I think the Val Bauciz is out. Short of a word from Henry & Co (and rules for them) it’s largely accademic.

    Hello,

Correct – the fact that the val’Holryn don’t emulate Ul family powers has more to do with the fact that the mechanics are not finalized than anything else.

So then out of curiosity, is it that the val’Holryn can’t emulate the val’Vasik, or that it is not an option for Heroes (regardless of cert)?

I realize the question is kinda semantics, but curious nonetheless.

As I understand it, the answer should be can’t. The Val Vasik are created long after the Val Holryn. The Val Holryn are known to be around (at least) by the ending days of the First Imperium. The val’Vasik aren’t created until after the founding of the Coryani Empire.

I can’t answer that as it has story implications as to the nature of the val’Holryn family.

We’ll eventually get to revealing that secret.
