    Heritage Spells, the val’Vasik:

Tier I – Word of Command
Tier II – Blinded by the Light*
Tier IIIBestow Curse OR Banishment (?)
Tier IV – Form of Our Lord*

    Thoughts on which seems better.

EDIT: Went with Bestow Curse as Banishments wouldn’t have worked during the Sealed Days, so it would have been a useless power.

    More things to consider:

    1) Will Bastionites be able to take the Legionnaire background? Most of their national weapons and armour fits with Coryani organization.

    2) Can val’Vasiks take Crusader (ba)?

    3) Will the val’Vasiks be allowed to have Flintlocks?

I changed the name of the Tier III bloodline as I just noticed it is the same name as one of the val’Mehan powers.

Since there hasn’t been any comments on this for the last week, we good? Can we lock this up?

ok, next one up is the val’Vasik.

This looks fine except for the ability – Fear the King of Gods, This ability affects Undead, for reason of expanding it’s usefulness, except that Undead are a function of the Neroth, a member of the Pantheon and it seems odd to harm an ally, just because he’s undead.

I don’t suppose their someway of differntiating (by way of Tag or attribute that exists in the current rules) between “good” and “evil” undead, is there?

    val’Vasik Racial Traits:

certain spells and Talents –typically this Bloodrank is
equal to the number of Bloodline Talents possessed.

    • A bonus Talent (selected when Talents are chosen)
    • Val gain a +1 bonus to any Interaction Skill check
made to influence others of lower social standing

    val’Vasik Bloodline Powers
    Patience of Illiir [Racial]
Though Xabal fell for intervening, he was once known as the Patience of Illiir, and some of the powers which had earned him that title have been passed on to his children.
    Requirements: Hero Tier I, val’Vasik
Benefit: You gain a +1 Bonus to all Mettle: Perseverance Action Skill Rolls.
Bloodrank: If you are a val’Vasik, obtaining this talent increases your racial Bloodrank by 1.

    Touch Not My Children [Racial]
The forces of evil are reluctant to harm or even touch a descendant of Xabal once their identity is revealed..
    Requirements: Hero Tier I, val’Vasik
Benefit: Once per day, per Bloodrank, a val’Vasik may, as a Push 2 action, boost any one of their Defenses by +2 against a single attack.
Bloodrank: If you are a val’Vasik, obtaining this talent increases your racial Bloodrank by 1.

Echoes of the Master’s Voice [Racial]
As Xabal once spoke a word to free his followers from the bondage of evil, so can his children speak an echo of that word to produce a shadow of its effects..
    Requirements: Hero Tier II, val’Vasik
Benefit: Once per day (Speed: 4, Range: 0′(20′ Radius), Duration: Instant) you may emit a piercing scream which causes pain in all around you. Make a Charisma Action Skill Roll, using your Bloodrank as a modifier, against the Fortitude Defense of all creatures within the effects radius. If successful, those affected suffer d6(Ch) damage. All Infernals, Silence Touched, and practitioners of the Dissolution Arcanum suffer 2d6(Ch) damage. This power does not affect any creature incapable of hearing, except for Infernals, Silence Touched, and practitioners of the Dissolution Arcanum, who instead suffer the lesser amount of damage if they are incapable of hearing.
Bloodrank: If you are a val’Vasik, obtaining this talent increases your racial Bloodrank by 1.

    Harm not my Children [Racial]
As much as they might wish otherwise, the forces of evil have less power over the val’Vasik than they do over other mortals.
    Requirements: Hero Tier II, val’Vasik
Benefit: Once per day as a Push 4 Action in response to an attack, a val’Vasik may call upon the protection of Xabal, forcing the attacker to make a Resolve Action Skill Roll against the Discipline Defense of the val’Vasik. If the attacker fails their roll, their attack automatically fails as if they missed with their attack roll.
Bloodrank: If you are a val’Vasik, obtaining this talent increases your racial Bloodrank by 1.

Fear the King of the Gods [Racial]
Even though Xabal is no longer in favor with Illiir, the Infernals and other fell creatures still fear the wrath of the King of the Gods.
    Requirements: Hero Tier III, val’Vasik
Benefit: Once per scene (Speed: 5, Range: 30′ (1 target)) a val’Vasik may force an Infernal, Shade, or Undead to make a Horror check against their Discipline Defense.
Bloodrank: If you are a val’Vasik, obtaining this talent increases your racial Bloodrank by 1.

    Discipline of Xabal [Racial]
Xabal does not tolerate those who are incapable of controlling their baser natures and greatly rewards those who can live up to his ideal.
    Requirements: Hero Tier IV, val’Vasik
Benefit: You gain +2 bonus to all Mettle: Stand Firm Action Skill Rolls. Whenever you are subject to a Horror check, you may reduce the severity of a failed check by one step. For example, if you fail a Horror check by 11 you are Helpless instead of Terrified. You may not reduce the severity of a failed Horror check below Shaken. Additionally, if you succeed against a Horror Check you gain a +2 to your Discipline Defense against all attacks made by the creature which triggered the Horror Check.
Bloodrank: If you are a val’Vasik, obtaining this talent increases your racial Bloodrank by 1.

    Searing Light of Illiir [Racial]
The val’Vasik has become the embodiment of Illiir’s protection of mankind, able to smite all foes that they see.
    Requirements: Hero Tier V, val’Vasik
Benefit: Once per Scene (Speed: 5, Range: 30′ (20′ Radius), Duration: Instant) you may channel a beam of light from the very heavens to deal d10(Ch) stamina damage to all creatures within the power’s radius. All scions of Illiir (i.e.: Illiirite Valinor, val’Assante’, val’Vasik, etc.) are immune to this effect.
Bloodrank: If you are a val’Vasik, obtaining this talent increases your racial Bloodrank by 1.

    Heritage Spells, the val’Vasik:

Tier I – Word of Command
Tier II – Blinded by the Light*
    Tier III – Bestow Curse
Tier IV – Form of Our Lord*

    Blinded By the Light

    Tradition: Heritage (val’Vasik) [Tier II]
    Category: Base
    CTN: 20
    Speed (Strain): 3 (+4)
    Range: 0’ (10′ radius)
    Duration: Instant
    Defense: Fortitude
You issue a burst of light, blinding all those around you.
Effect: All affected targets are Blinded for 6 ticks and suffer Push 2.
Adaptation: You may increase the CTN by 4 and Strain by 2 to increase the duration of the Blindness condition for an additional 3 Ticks.
Adaptation: You may increase the CTN by 6, Speed and Strain by 1 to increase the radius of this effect by an additional 5′. This adaptation may be applied multiple times.
Special: Any creature affected by this spell gains a +2 to their Fortitude against all subsequent castings of the spell that scene.

    Form of Our Lord

    Tradition: Heritage (val’Vasik) [Tier IV]
    Category: Advanced
    CTN: 26
    Speed (Strain): 5 (+10)
    Range: Self
    Duration: Special (D)
You are able to draw on the Valinoric blood flowing through your veins, manifesting a fraction of their size and power.
Effect: You and all your equipment grow one size category to Large size, imposing a -1 penalty to Avoidance, a +1 Bonus to Fortitude, and a die bump to your Might. This spell remains active for 12 Ticks, upon which time you must make another CTN roll against the original CTN needed to cast the spell, plus a cumulative +2 to the roll for every 6 Ticks beyond the first 12. Once this spell has ended, you are Exhausted for 2 hours due to the strain inflicted upon your body.
Adaptation: You may increase the CTN by 6 and Strain by 4 to add an additional +2 to all Might-based Action Skill Rolls.
Adaptation: Increase the CTN by 4 and Speed by 1 to grant yourself an additional 10 Stamina or 1 wound while this spell is active. This Stamina or Wound is immediately lost upon returning to your normal form (NOTE: If this drops the Heroes Stamina or Wounds to 0, they are considered to be Vanquished, with all the normal rules applying to their condition).
Special: This spell can only increase your size from a Medium-sized creature to a Large-sized creature.

I included the Undead because, while they belong mostly in Neroth’s wheelhouse, do show up in val’Assante’ powers. The rationale of this seems to be Illiir’s purging of the impure as the val’Assante’ powers target Undead, Infernals, Silence Touched, and practicioners of the Dissolution Arcanum (example: Tier V Bloodline power “Word of Illiir”)

    Word of Illiir [Racial]
You may whisper the perfect Word of Illiir, a word so righteous,
so immaculate, that it summons forth an unmatched, brilliant
    radiance.
    Requirements: Hero Tier V, val’Assanté
Benefit: Once per day (Speed: 5, Duration: Instant, Range:
30’), you may speak the Word of Illiir, bathing the area
    around you in scorching brilliance.
Roll an Intimidate (Re) Action Skill Roll against the
Discipline of all creatures within range. Creatures you
successfully strike suffer d10 (Ch) damage and are blinded
    for 24 Ticks.
Undead, Infernals, Silence Touched, or practitioners
    of the Dissolution Arcanum
    suffer much more under the
unyielding grace of Illiir; they suffer an additional 2 points
    of damage per Bloodrank.
Bloodrank: If you are a val’Assanté, obtaining this Talent
increases your racial Bloodrank by 1.

Alas, there is no “good” and “evil” in the Arcanis game as it stands now, and no mechanics to deal with that. You can make it similar to an “Undead Smite” by limiting it to undead followers THAT ARE NOT of your particular sect, but that is as close as I think you’re going to get.

(Silly phone writing and missing words. . . )

Reposted for clarity, with the edits Henry suggested (including all the American spellings that I caught and just can’t bring myself to use normally \";)\" ), plus the one for clearing up the Tier III power to be less anti-Nerothian.

    I like it, but….

    Harm not my Children

I would lower the speed to Push 2, seeing its once per day.. its a weaker version of Grasp the blade.

now as a push 2 action its better then Grasp, but not too much better… being limited..

also I was thinking, what if someone uses it against someone casting an area of effect spell?

    It’s still an attack…

you may want to clarify something in regard to spells (strain and the like)

As Henry didn’t comment on this, I assume this is not going to be incorporated into the Bastionite Religion, and therefore not an option for val’Vasiks. That said, does this look reasonable for a Pantheonic Priest? We (at least PCI) will have to eventually make rules for how they work if they keep delving into the First Imperium/Khitan, so at least getting some things ironed out if can’t hurt if we’re mostly done with the Vasik.
As it was floating through my head. Even if this doesn’t make it in here, it could be used in the future. . .

Priest of the Pantheon of Man
While the worship of the Pantheon of Man has splintered among those of the Known Lands, beyond the boarders of the former Coryani Empire many nations still hold to some form of the original worship of the unified Pantheon of Man. While most initiates tend to focus on specific elements of faith, effectively being inducted into the Orders of the various Gods, when they are annointed to their priesthood they give themselves over to the Pantheon as a whole.

Nationality: Worshiper of the Khitani Kalindrul, Blackwand in the League of Princes, First Imperium of Man

    Initiate Priest of the Pantheon
Requirements: Initiate of the Gods (Ba), Holy Champion (Pa), or Initiate Itinerate (Pa); Church Education (ta); Knowledge (Religion) and Etiquette as Trained Skills.
    Skills: Etiquette, Knowledge (Religion)
    Talents: Dual Faiths, Inspirational Presence.

    Acolyte Priest of the Pantheon
Requirements: Priest of the Pantheon (Initiate).
    Skills: Persuasion, Arcanum (Cants)
Talents: The Old Ways, Lay on Hands.

    Master Priest of the Pantheon
Requirements: Priest of the Pantheon (Acolyte).
    Skills: Empathy, Knowledge (Religion)
    Talents: United Pantheon*, Smite Infidel.

    United Pantheon [Limited, Devout]
Requirement: The Old Ways, Tier III.
Benefit: You may now learn any unique spells from the Diety Tradition belonging to any member of the Pantheon that is espoused by your church. Additionally, for talents or abilities which specifically target or exclude a particular member of the Pantheon (as espoused by your Church), you are treated as being a worshiper of that Diety. For example, if you are targeted by an attack which only harms those who don’t follow Nier, you are treated as following Nier.

So, since there is discussion of this floating around on the forums, I thought I’d do a quick list of Backgrounds and Paths which seem to me to be appropriate for the val’Vasik, that way Henry has the data in a single location so he can make any decisions he desires:

    Safe Bets
    Not Sure
    Don’t Think So

    Backgrounds –

    Apprentice of the Masters
    Awakened Scion
    Bodyguard
    Diplomat
    Exile/Expatriot
Former Legionnaire – This is Coryani exclusive, but fits the feel from their weapons and armour list.
    Former Messenger
    Former Soldier
Former Street Urchin/Begger – This does NOT seem in keeping with Bastion, but might work.
Former Watchman – I think Secret Policeman would be more in keeping with Bastion, actually
    Guilder
Initiate of the Gods – Illiir only, presumably, as it unlocks Divine Spell Casting
Mercenary – This does NOT feel in flavour with Bastion, but possible.
Noble Born – the val’Vasiks did seem to be the ruling house of the city.
Performer – Possible? I recall singing happening in Bastion when I played Condemnation.
Peasant – I don’t think this fits the val’Vasik theme.
    Sailor – Bastion DOES have a navy. . .
    Scribe
Former Secret Policeman – Xabal is always watching you. . .
Templar – Presumably of Illiir only.
    Tomb Robber – Possible?
Vagabond – Same thought as Street Urchin/Begger.

Crusader of the 6th Crusade – This seems like a viable path as they ARE veterans of at least one battle.
Dilettante – Possible, but unlikely that Xabal would tolerate such people.
Equestrian – Same thought as Legionnaire.
    Almeric Legionnaire – See above.
    Former Merchant
    Former Official
    Former Scout
Former Tribune – Not sure how well this fits with the val’Vasiks rolls in the military.
    Huntsman – Could work.
Minstral/Mummer – Again, there was singing in Bastion. . .
Theocrat – Makes sense with Xabal’s VERY strict society.
    Tutor
Undisciplined Psion – The Undisciplined part seems to go against Xabal’s society, but still could work.

    Paths –

Annointed Priest – Only of Illiir, though.
Apprentice Arcanist – Legacy of Damnation says there is no Arcane tradition, so I don’t think so.
Archaeologist – Would the Bastionites care?
    Assassin – Doesn’t seem Xabal’s style
    Bard – Could work
Bounty Hunter – I could actually kind of see this working.
    Bowman
Centurion – Only if the Legionnaires are allowed
Duelist – Doesn’t seem in flavour to me.
    Grand Master
Harbinger of the Dawn – Not listed as exclusively a Coryani/MC order. . .
    Holy Champion
    Initiate Itinerant
Magi – Again, do they have an Arcane tradition?
    Mat at Arms
Master of the Hounds – Is there this tradition in Bastion?
    Myrmidon
    Psion
    Ranger – Seems possible
Scoundrel – Doesn’t seem to fit in with Xabal’s society.
Spy – Could work, though a val’Vasik spy seems a poor choice to me as they are fairly unique.
    Sword Sage
    Templar Itinerant
    Weapon Savant

    Bound Guardian – Could work. . .
Cantenari – This seems like something ALL Bastionites would be trained in \":P\"
    Devoted – Illiir only
    Devout Initiate – Illiir only
    Honour Guard
Jack of Knives – No reason this couldn’t work I guess
    Legate
Milandesian Warmind – How much contact is there between Bastion and the known Lands?
    Prefect – Again, Legionnairy Tradition
    Scholar
    Seasoned Veteran
War Mage – Again, Arcane tradition?
    War Priest
Wilder – Seems to go against the Disciplined Bastionite culture, but possible.

    Searing Light of Illiir [Racial]
The val’Vasik has become the embodiment of Illiir’s protection of mankind, able to smite all foes that they see..
    Requirements: Hero Tier V, val’Vasik
Benefit: Once per Scene (Speed: 5, Range: 30′ (20′ Radius), Duration: Instant) you may call down a beam of light from the heavens to deal d10(Ch) stamina damage to all creatures within the power’s radius. All scions of Illiir (ie: Illiirite Valinor, val’Assante’, val’Vasik, etc) are immune to this effect.
Bloodrank: If you are a val’Vasik, obtaining this talent increases your racial Bloodrank by 1.

Just noticed: What attack value would we use for this power? Melee Thrown (like the val’Virdan/Emman powers)?

I would just make it a standard spell attack targeting Avoidance. Given the indirect nature it’s closer to Lightning Strike than a spell directed from caster to target. THere’s no special targeting with that spell. Even if there were, Given that it’s a 20′ radius, you don’t need to be quite as precise.

With a sweep of his hat,
