Hello,
Again – Like the val’Vasik, we need a write up for these psionic Black Talons like a normal racial write up in the book.
January 16, 2014 at 8:06 pm #255367AnonymousInactiveI think this one is the simplest of the group, so I’ll try my hand at this first:
Common Ss’Sosi Traits:
Attributes: Might, Insight
Skills: Wilderness Lore; and any one Physical Skill OR Arcanum (Meditiation)
• +2 Bonus to the Balance Skill Action (Acrobatics skill)
• +1 Fortitude Defense
• Natural Armor Rating of 3
• Other races find Ssethric creatures frustratingly difficult to read, thus ss’ressen gain a +2 bonus to their Discipline Defense against Empathy: Read Someone and Empathy: Discern Intentions action skill rolls.
• A -2 to Defenses against any Cold Attack
• -1 Quickness, -5’ Pace in Cold Conditions (below
freezing)
• You may not take the Divine Archetype, and may only take the Arcane Archetype using the Psionic Source
• Your character must be Male.
Talents: Spontaneously Awakened
Automatic Languages: Ss’ressen, Milandisian
Special: Because of the Hatchlings of Ven val’Sosi have yet to fully explore their Psionic potential, when choosing Psionic Spells they are limited to those spells found in the Transmutation, Telekinesis, and Control Traditions.
Special: You qualify as a Val of your own family in regards to Sword Saint (Pa) and Milandesian War Mind (Pa).January 16, 2014 at 8:12 pm #255371drafitParticipantYep – I thought this would be one of the easiest to do.
I’ll leave this thread open in case anyone has anything to add or disagree with.
Thanks!
January 16, 2014 at 8:15 pm #255373AnonymousInactiveI agree. This one is pretty low maintenance.

I think it looks good. Do we want their albinoism to have any adverse effects or just keep it purely cosmetic?
January 16, 2014 at 8:17 pm #255374drafitParticipantI’m fine with it being cosmetic.
January 16, 2014 at 8:47 pm #255382AnonymousInactiveAlthough I am generally against limiting options for players, given the story write-up for these guys, I think they need to take Mental Scream as their Spontaneously Awakened spell.
January 16, 2014 at 8:50 pm #255383drafitParticipantMatt,
I don’t agree.
The mental scream from the story is analogous to the cries of a newborn. As such, it’s instinctual rather than something learned.
I know I would be hard pressed top scream at the top of my lungs for a sustained amount of time now. Therefore, it should be an option, but not forced upon the player.
January 16, 2014 at 8:50 pm #255384AnonymousInactiveMaybe make it their Tier I Heritage Spell?
January 16, 2014 at 8:53 pm #255385AnonymousInactivethis brings up an interesting question….because they are not vals, do they even get heritage spells?
January 16, 2014 at 8:54 pm #255386AnonymousInactiveI view Heritage spells as being a Tradition unique to the race, similar to how Entropy Psionic Casters gain Dissolution instead of Heritage (if I understand the rules correctly). Since the ss’Sosi are 1) trained by the val’Holryn, and 2) Come from a Valinoric Heritage, I assume they would get Heritage spells.
January 16, 2014 at 9:01 pm #255387drafitParticipantCody,
I don’t agree with your reputation of Heritage spell.
I don’t believe, even with the val’Holryn Master of the Mind training them, that they would acquire a “traditional” technique.
I think we should skip that notion. If you want to give them mental shriek as a freebie, I guess that’s fine by me.
January 16, 2014 at 9:04 pm #255388AnonymousInactive::Shrug:: I’m down with not giving them Heritage spells. That was just my read of the rules and the tropes of the universe. My bad!
As for Mental Scream, it is a Control Spell IIRC, so they’d get it anyway if they are allowed the other Psionic traditions.
EDIT: I’ve changed my original racial post to reflect their lack of ability to select Heritage spells. This means they will only have access to three traditions (Control, Transmutation, and Telekinesis), though which may be a bit limiting.
