Ok, I know we had a list before, but for some reason, my sleep deprived mind can not find it, where is the full listing of the Known portals of Anshar?
Thanks
Kenny.
December 4, 2013 at 6:19 pm #252754AnonymousInactiveI have a list of some 22 of the portals, but I didn’t annotate my personal list the same way I did the list that was on the previous incarnation of the forums. For what it’s worth, though. . .

Vrain Near Nier’s Spine, Theocracy of CanceriDecember 4, 2013 at 6:39 pm #252755AnonymousInactiveHaving just played a module with an Anshar Portal, there’s one inside Venkata (Which you have listed) and it’s guarded by the (previously Coryan) undead legion (Whose name I forget). It’s inside the Dome of the city.

December 4, 2013 at 7:03 pm #252757AnonymousInactiveIt is actually Grim Lamentations. The adventure is being edited to fit with what has been established in canon.
December 4, 2013 at 7:08 pm #252758AnonymousInactiveUh , what? your telling me an active coryani legion is stationed in Ventaka. I think your smoking crack.
the Doom of Chendo was the undead legion that was stationed in Enpebyn but left (was chased out) after the big to do about the blast powder there, and IIRC Henery was the one that had them defect and move to Ventaka.
I’ll work on references for that later.
Other things I might believe: the clergy of anshar controls the gate in Ventaka, or there is an undead horde in ventaka’s gate room.
December 4, 2013 at 7:22 pm #252760drafitParticipantThe one you’re accusing of smoking crack would be me.

The Legion of Grim Lamentation is tasked with guarding all the Gates of Anshar and with a couple of notable exceptions, they do.
And as for the Doom of Chendo, maybe I’m getting old but I don’t remember every having them “defect” to Canceri.
December 4, 2013 at 7:46 pm #252762AnonymousInactiveOh Henry, why must you make things so complicated? (we love you for it tho so don’t mind me, and sorry if i was a bit vehement in my phrasing)
So I went digging, and oh the memories so part of this can be explained by my faulty memory, and an explanation of the events of the battle of Enpebyn from Darrel Weaver (taken from LATalk)
Many of the skulls protecting Enpebyn, including that of the General of the ghost legion, were torn loose from the city’s buildings by the blast powder explosion and have disappeared into the Lavender Way.
Oops my bad, but I swear they ended up in Ventaka, I’m still wrong tho

On more looking, (On the Red March, from the Nishampur Campaign) indicated the gate was buried and unprotected and that adventure was the Heroes trying to uncover it.
And I have yet to find any listings from the old campaign where it was protected.
so if the Legion of Grim Lamentation is in Ventaka, how does that work, I would imagine very precariously.
December 4, 2013 at 8:00 pm #252763AnonymousInactiveadditions to the list, isnt there a portable gate, in the hands of Ymandragore? and a celestial gate in the hinterlands (late in the crusade arc , i cant recall if that was a normal gate in addition to its function as a world gate)
and the gate that was on the southern continent that made an appearance in Wrong turn at Coryan?
December 4, 2013 at 9:05 pm #252768AnonymousInactive1) It was the Legion of Black Sun which is an undead legion, as I recall. They were last seen making their way to Canceri as I recall.
2) There is no Celestial Giant Gate (to my knowledge) in the Hinterlands. The only one that came up in the Crusade Arc was in Niss in the Unsealed Lands (which was set to go critical so I doubt it is there anymore).
3) The gate was buried 50 years ago. It has since been un-buried. The only time the Ventaka gate was used ‘on camera’ was when the whole thing was under assault by the Swords of Nier when Elebac was going to become Undead. At that point, the Heroes were attacked by Nierites as soon as they exited the Portal so presumably the Legion either gave way or were killed.
4) No clue about a portable Ansharan gate on Ymandragore. Though, technically ALL gates are portable, since we know that the gate in Grand Coryan was moved to its present location.
December 4, 2013 at 10:52 pm #252776AnonymousInactivethe portable gate was a prop at a larp late in the 3rd ed campaign, IIRC the inestimable Sean Molley was playing a Ymandrake broker at the time. and Nelson was playing the Dagger of Cadic at the time to but I forget to what purpose.

It is hard to state how weird The Legion of Grim Lamentation is. For one, TMK, the Legion does not rely on the central Coryani infrastructure that keeps the Legions going. They fund and run themselves … from somewhere. Where? Who are their patrons? Uh, good questions! I don’t know either. Some claim to have seen them in weird places…like the four big (inaccessible) Gates in the First City. So yes they are also guarding Ventaka’s Gate. Since they never get involved in local politics and don’t apparently take orders from Coryan its less weird than it sounds at first. All they do is guard the gates…though TMK they have never denied anyone access. I believe occasionally the Gates malfunction and something comes through…and the reason for the LGL is to deal with these somethings. Though that isn’t stated anywhere officially.
They do not seem to be active in Milandir. Not in Luchek or Tralia to be sure. Bargains of the Spirit and Flesh and So Shall you Reap were both Henry mods with no signs of them. Not mentioned anywhere else either. My guess is the Kings of Milandir managed to either kick them out or come to some kind of arrangement.
At Game storm earlier this year Henry mentioned that their helmets contain a face mask. For all we know there are Altherian robots underneath. And that they keep to themselves. Apparently you can never find a couple off duty in some taverna drinking a Savonan Red. Makes it hard to ask questions.
December 5, 2013 at 2:15 pm #252793AnonymousInactiveso really the legion it’s mostly in name rather than action, that I can understand a whole lot more. so in what wsys is it act like a foryani legion?
December 5, 2013 at 2:28 pm #252794AnonymousInactiveRemember: Coryani Legions are often based on older, First Imperium Legions (where the powerful Legion Standards came from). As such, GL may be from that storied time of history.
December 5, 2013 at 3:03 pm #252795drafitParticipantAh the Legion of Grim Lamentation. Created in the first batch of legions I ever sat down and wrote down, they are full of mystery, secrets and a long history.
As Cody is correct, the LGL has been around since the glory days of the First Imperium and was recognized by and accepted as a Coryani legion by the third Coryani Emperor. That doesn’t mean however, that it was reconstituted and recreated as an original legion, but rather it is unique. or almost so, in that the legion has never dissolved and can trace its lineage back in an unbroken time line back to its inception.
As to why there weren’t any legionnaires at Lucheck is because there aren’t enough members to guard each and every portal, so the legion patrols some of the lesser used ones, popping in ,checking around and then going on to the next seldom used portal.
As for Tralia in Bargains , I believe that the scene was the ambush by Reavers. The reason you didn’t see them was that they were killed by said Reavers and their bodies disposed before the Heroes arrived. Members of the LGL are most certainly on duty in Milandir as they are in the Empire, Canceri, etc. I just don’t think it necessary to mention their presence unless its necessary.
One other thing to remember is that the legionnaires don’t necessarily stand at attention beside the portal but at times are in a side room or some such.
I would love to do a monograph on the LGL but would much rather their secrets be revealed in an adventure rather than in text. When that adventure possibility will present itself is unknown.
