Templars should have access to it ONLY if they have Divine Spell Casting (so I’d put that in the Devout part’s prereqs), but should to take it separately.

I see. I didn’t realize you had added it to Initiate of the Gods, I thought you went with Anointed Priest all along. I see why Josh thought it was upset that Initiates of Anshar got an extra talent. I don’t think it’s unbalancing for Anointed Priest of Anshar to get this as an extra talent.

Should The Blast (ta) be Devout too, with requirements Divine Caster of Althares and Hero Tier V?

I’m just wondering how priest of Althares make blast powder.

Under Path of the Stars change the
    Requirements to

Requirements: val’Inares, or if taken as a
Devout Talent, must have Anshar as your
patron deity and you must have the divine spell
    casting talent

Also, this errata doesn’t actually give the talent the Devout descriptor.

    changed it to

    Under Path of the Stars
Add the [Devout] descriptor and change the Requirements to

Requirements: val’Inares, or if taken as a Devout Talent, must have Anshar as your patron deity and you must have the divine spell casting talent.

you can drop “and you must have the divine spell casting talent. ” for the most part its redundant yes you can take devout and not have that specific talent, but i think for story purposes having access to devout spells should be good enough

The divine spell casting talent is a requirement because Henry wants PRIEST to have access. Templar only count as Priest if they have spell casting.

    Hello,

Correct – up to a point.

If memory serves, Templar is a BACKGROUND. So one can be a Divine caster with a Templar background – essentially making them a priest (with the requisite spell casting training).

A Martial Archetype with the Templar BACKGROUND is a Temple Guard and not a priest. They aren’t taught Cants.

Similarly, as I was explaining to Peter, an Ansharan Guard (Templar BACKGROUND) doesn’t know how to open Her gates. That falls to Her priests and Holy Champions.

Hopefully, this will clarify things. (Who am I kidding…) \":-)\"

    pg 170 ARPG

You may learn Devout talents if you possess either the Arcane Spell Casting: Sorcerer Priest of Sarish Talent or any of the Divine Spell Casting Talents.

the holy champion path, sword saint path, templar itenerant path, templar background all have text that say “and you may take Devout Talents as if you possessed the Divine Spell Casting Talent.”

Henry thank you for the story reasonings, the ways the rules are currently written, poses some difficulty to that model, unless the Val and the priests open the portals in differnt ways i would recomend an additional tag line of ” Only those that have learned the Cants can open her ways” or somesuch that indicates that you have to actually be a spellcaster

That’s why I asked to put in the part about if you take this as a devout talent, you must have spell casting.

    Devin,

That will need to be part of the errata.

i keep thinking of this as the “no really you have to have divine spellcasting” rule

that being said, I’d be willing to bet this distinction wont matter to Heroes, because if they are taking the Templar background or path its specifically to get access to divine spell casting

In game terms Josh, spell casting makes you a priest. No spells not a priest. Which is fine in my opinion. Giving it spell casting requirements opens it up to Templar and HC who want to take it.

But Henry just said HC of Anshar get it as well. So the requirements could be changed to “if taken as devout, then must be a AP or HC of Anshar. “
