    Hello everyone,

Fellow Arcaniac and programmer extraordinaire, Scott Reid, has created a nifty tool to set up your own gaming events and download the Legends of Arcanis adventures you want! At the moment, there are thirty (30) adventures to choose from with more on the way.

These adventures encompass the entire two-year CRUSADE story-arc as well as a variety of Soft Points that will take you to such exotic regions as Pricklespur Forest as well as far off Metra in the Western Lands. Future releases will explore the First City and the Blessed Lands as well as other exciting locales.

I just registered on the site (that went fine). I then went to download adventures I don’t have yet and it said I needed an Event. I then went and created an Event and it said it was submitted fine but it does not show up in the drop-down on the Event page or on the Adventure page so I’m still unable to download Adventures. Please advise.

What date did you put for the event?

The hosting provider has a short session timeout period that I’m working to overcome. (roughly 15 minutes or so.) By any chance did you have a long delay between creating your event and trying to download the adventures? If so, you may have been logged out and not realized it.

Regardless, I’ll take a look and see if I see anything amiss.

There wasn’t between creating the event and trying to download but there may have been between logging on and creating the event. When I go back, it still claims I’m logged in. I just went and tried creating a new event (only difference was making it single day instead of defining it for long period) and got the same “success” message on creating the event. This time the event did show up in the drop-down on the Adventures page (and I was able to download the two A2 adventures).

My current best guess is that the site will say event creation succeeded even if the timeout occurred.

One other minor quirk I noticed is that after adding an event, it is not listed in the drop-down on the event page itself until you reload the page.

Ah, here’s your problem. The drop down list of events only displays events that are scheduled to end no further than 60 days from now. You scheduled your event to end on January 31st. So it will start showing up in your events list on December 2nd or 3rd.

Please note that the intention of this system is to have you re-download whenever you run an event, so that we can get a sense of how often modules are being played, and which ones. Scott even developed a very sleek Event Reporting tab that allows you to report the tables you run connected to the events which we would really appreciate that people do.

Creating an essentially open-ended event to download future events as they come up sort of defeats that purpose, especially since we understand that most people are just going to download a module once and then run it multiple times anyway.

    Hello,

One thing I’ve noticed is people putting nonsensical answers when asked where the event is taking place. Answers such as “Here” or “Many Places” is not helpful. We ask this so we can get an idea of where Arcanis is being played (and conversely, where it isn’t) so that we can see where we need to add support, continue supporting an area, etc.

Please take the time to fill out the information properly.

    Thank you.

I will fess-up to putting in the “Many Places” myself, owing to the fact that the majority of the time I get to play nowadays is online. As the format does not take that into account that I could see, I chose that option.

Then again, I did state it was “Online play” above, so I hoped things would balance out \";)\"

“Here” was me; I was using it for my download and general website testing.

Have you thought about combining the event creation and event reporting for most things and only requesting people create specific events beforehand for public events?

I’ll be honest and say I’d be more likely to report the event after it happens if I didn’t have to create an event to report on in a separate form.

I think it’s unrealistic to expect people to redownload modules every time they’re going to run them.

Feedback: (On a MAC using Chrome)

Registration: This went very smoothly (Creating your own security question is pretty cool!).

My Profile / My Characters: This is interesting, but right away I don’t see the point. It just has a name and ID and whether the character is retired. Is this going to be expanded?

My Profile / My Events: Overall, the process was smooth. Here are some User Experience recommendations:
    – Event End Date: When the calendar is brought up, the default date should be the “Event Start Date” not today’s date.
    – The “Asterisks” for required field (I assume that’s what they are), should be placed before or after the field labels so they are easier to see.
    – Event Location: An optional address would be nice.
    – After creating a new event, that same event shows up in the fields and I have to ‘deselect’ Create New in the dropdown then reselect it for the fields to blank out. The event doesn’t automatically show up in the dropdown unless I leave the page and come back.
    – Should be a way to ‘delete’ events
    – It would be nice if there were a way to set up a recurring event (For instance a Game Day that occurs every month)

    Adventures Section:
    – All of the HP’s and SP’s in year 1 and 2 should show up under Crusade, regardless of where they took place. If this requires multiple ‘meta tags’ for each adventure, that might be needed. I expect A1SP01 to show up under Crusade in addition to Almeric (if that’s needed). They are all part of the Crusade Arc.
    – Alternatively you could have 2 filters: Story Arc and then “Location”
    – Is it possible to list the ‘in game date’ for each module, if available, in the table?
    – Downloading was very easy \":)\" Nice job on that

    Campaign Documents:
    – Useful! I assume other campaign documents will be here as well later?

    Event Reporting:
    – It appears that the events shown in the dropdown are those that were downloaded on the Adventures Page for that event. If this is the case, there should be a part of the “My Events” that shows upcoming events with the associated modules downloaded for them. This would help with maintaining a schedule that’s easy to see and use. Otherwise, the functionality is fairly intuitive to me.
    – I didn’t submit an event report, but as long as every player isn’t required to have logged in and registered on this site it’s fine. \":)\"

Will review more after I use it for a real event.

Thanks for the feedback. I can’t promise that every issue will be addressed, but it’s good to know what people like and dislike.

My Profile / My Characters: This is interesting, but right away I don’t see the point. It just has a name and ID and whether the character is retired. Is this going to be expanded? There are plans for expansion. When and if those plans come to fruition, I can’t say. However, the Character ID thing is useful right now. When someone reports an event it will ask them to enter the players’ User Names (e-mail address) and Character Numbers. The e-mail address does not have to be a registered user. This way, if you have a new player at the table, he/she can still be reported as playing the adventure even though he/she has not registered, yet. In other words, you don’t need to register in this system to report playing. And if/when you do register, you will already have record of having played, so long as you register with the same e-mail address that you gave your judge/con organizer.

    My Profile / My Events:
    – Event Location: An optional address would be nice.
    – After creating a new event, that same event shows up in the fields and I have to ‘deselect’ Create New in the dropdown then reselect it for the fields to blank out. The event doesn’t automatically show up in the dropdown unless I leave the page and come back.
    – Should be a way to ‘delete’ events
    – It would be nice if there were a way to set up a recurring event (For instance a Game Day that occurs every month)
Event Location: I’ll add this to the “nice to have” list and we’ll see what happens. I kind of like the idea, personally.
After creating…: I’ll see what I can do.
delete events: Generally speaking, we don’t want events deleted. If you make a mistake, you can edit it. Otherwise, you can simply not download any adventures for the event. But history is important, so deleting an event would remove it from the system. Once the End Date is passed (by 2 days) it will stop showing up in your event drop downs.
Recurring events: This is unlikely. I won’t say, “no.” But my web skills are only so-so. And there would be several hurdles to overcome.

Adventures Section: So, I like these ideas. But every piece of information that gets displayed needs to be entered by the person uploading the adventure. Also, some of that information could be considered ‘spoiler’ territory. Anyway, whether or not any of this gets added wouldn’t be my call, anyway. So I won’t comment any further on it. But I will say that all of it is within the realm of possibility. I’ll leave it to PCI and/or campaign staff to make any other comments.

Otherwise, the functionality is fairly intuitive to me.Correct. Users cannot report tables of an event that they did not download. In the case of Open Librabry slots where you just don’t know until the last minute, that’s why you can continue to download adventures up through 2 days after the event. Then you can report results up to 2 weeks later, if necessary. Also, I’ve already had one person ask about an “upcoming events” page showing public events in the near future. So that’s an option that might happen as well. As far as seeing the events that you’ve already downloaded, that’s a good idea. I’ll see what I can do.

    Thanks,
    Scott

Overall you’ve done a fantastic job!

On the 2 day after event limit. I would encourage 4 days to allow for weekend conventions. If your open library is on Thursday or Friday it might be until Sunday that you report.
