Josh says 2. I say 3 & 4.
nothing in 3 and 4?
I must say your nuts..
Tier II: Whirlwind? Repose? Snap Shot (After the errata of course, the recovery should have been 0, allowing you to do it when under recovery)
Tier III: Shattering Shot, Overpower, Trail of Bodies?????
No idea what you expect, the finger of god down upon your foes?
March 17, 2014 at 1:11 am #259428AnonymousInactiveMy only input is that there should be the following at each tier to support specific builds needing to choose a technique each tier:
Here are some needs as I see it.
1) TWF Attack
– Spinning Strikes, Trap and Cut, Double Stab. Need Tier 4 and 5
2) Movement Based
– Lunge, Disengaging Strike, Passing Strike, Flowing Sand. Need Tier 3 and 4
3) Multi-Attack
– Sweeping Strikes, Whirlwind, Flowing Sand, and Trail of Bodies. Need Tier 2
4) Powerful Attacks
– Mighty Swing (Trick), Reckless Swings, Vital Strike, Devastating Blow, Strike without Thought. need Tier 1 maybe?
5) Charging
– Lunge, Pressing Attack, Guarded Charge, Overpower. Need Tier 3 and 5
6) Status Effects
– Distracting Blow, Force the Opening, Blinding Strike. Need Tier 4 and 5
7) Ranged
– Precise Aim, Careful Aim, Splitting Hairs, Snap Shot, Shattering Shot, Deadeye Shot, Moment of PrescienceSeems we have a lot of different paths, but need a few talents to fill in gaps.

March 17, 2014 at 1:21 am #259437AnonymousInactiveyou realize Whirlwind is still good for ANY melee martial build right?
TWF can benefit from Overpower (get into fights faster and with a good stab) and Trail of Bodies.. come on Trail of Bodies alone..
Movement Based = Overpower
Multi-Attack = Between the Seams.. oh.. you have armor?!?!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You thinking way too limited in your builds… think combinations, opening up a target for other foes.. and so on..
Powerful Attacks… Distracting Blow
a good martial should have a dash of other styles to fall back on….
March 17, 2014 at 1:31 am #259439AnonymousInactivei like johns approach id probably mix things up a bit differntly myself but its a good approach (and good point)
as a different point, People pick something to be good at, Delbert is good at shield attacking (and not TWF) there isnt anything in tier two that improves on what I do.
pedro…. um dude, I’m actually quite proud of Delbert’s build, I’m taking things that make him better at being delbert, not because they have some arbitrary power bump.
some of the maneuvers are decent and get better as you advance and can combine them with other things, but long term dont do much of anything for me, for example “between the seams” oh add a passive insight die to damage… i can combine that with mighty swing and blah blah blah be awesome … or i can wait and combine mighty swing with devestating blow and be more delbert…..
March 17, 2014 at 1:40 am #259440AnonymousInactiveI’m not saying those are an exhaustive list of each type or what everyone will take, but like Josh said, a lot of characters will pick a fighting style and focus on it. Just because Trail of Bodies is a great technique it might not fit someone’s style.
I don’t think any of the gaps are insurmountable, but if someone really wants to be good at TWF, they might want to take some improvements on that each Tier (and combine with some helpful techniques along the way like unbalancing attack).
My list was just a quick list of some different type of fighting styles characters might choose and where there might be gaps in the Tiers for each type.
March 17, 2014 at 2:11 am #259444AnonymousInactiveI think that while whirlwind is good, its not a must have thing, the most useful thing it is for is for minions and thats not the role of most martial characters.
We *could* debate the relative value of each individual technique, Or you can ask a question out to the general population and see what they think about martial techniques… I would suggest a “whats your favorite martial rechniques from each tier” kinda question
March 17, 2014 at 2:18 am #259445AnonymousInactiveWhirlwind is nice, but it’s probably not too often you have more than 3 opponents in melee at once (I say more than 3 since Sweeping Strikes affects 3).
I like Lunge and Passing Strike since it allows movement up and an attack.
Ummm with 1.5 Shields are getting hit with the Nerf Bat….
They will be slower across the board (+1 speed) and all the tricks are getting tweaked..
Also, the better tricks will be moved up in Tier with new tricks created for lower tiers.
They are way too good right now..
Fair enough, but it’s not like you lack ANY choices at those tears…
this just makes me sad and frustrated. sweeping changes to things and hitting things with the nerf bat REALLY makes things adversarial. I’m just going to hope this is hyperbole and move on
March 17, 2014 at 1:34 pm #259475AnonymousInactiveDude Shields Tricks are waaaaayyyy too good right now..
be honest with me, they are.
my plan was
1) Condense all the proficiency issues with shields to one talent “Shield Training” right counts as weapon and armor training with the shield.2) all shields have their speed increased by 1, the are not designed to be primary weapons (though we can always create a shield type designed for such a purpose)
3) as far as “tweak tricks” it’s more like “make them all work the same” where as they all state you lose your defensive bonus from the shield until recovery is done. You can only knock a target of equal of lesser size down, stuff like that.
4) I wanted to add a “quick sling” weapon trick (see Brad Pitt when he charged the beach in Troy)
5) Clarify how runes work with shields and give them there own quality modifications.
6) remind people that when someone uses shield defense, all attacks hit the shield..causing damage to the shield
7) bring shields into their own table (away from weapons and armor) to have all the info in one place.
Based upon this, I would ask you (Josh), John and the other Harvesters, to refrain from commenting on the proposed errata for 24 hours. Lets give everyone else a chance to read and form their own conclusion before those seen to be the most active and experienced members of the community make their own comments.
Thank you.
March 17, 2014 at 1:55 pm #259479AnonymousInactiveHenry that’s a great plan I was planning on doing something like that informally.
also as a side note, while i have been vocal and contentious on the harvester boards, I plan on toeing the line and supporting all of the decisions that were decided on in here when I do post. and trying to have moderating opinions when discussing new things.
that being said, my sadness was directed at pedro’s 1.5 comment, thankfully that discussion is in the future.
Josh the discussion on shields is WAY out… right now I want us to focus on the current errata.. once that’s out to bed we can work on other projects
March 17, 2014 at 3:20 pm #259499AnonymousInactiveIm good with not discussing for a while to give others a chance. We’d had a lot of time to hammer in things in here.
