The Elemental Runes would probably ‘take over’ if one of the other AR’s were bypassed. So if you had a rune that provided AR 2 Fire against attacks, but a fire attack bypassed your worn AR and / or natural AR, then the elemental rune should still absorb 2 points.

If the fire damage bypasses AR, why wouldn’t it bypass Fire AR? Does the fire AR say it protects from bypass effects?

So, if the unassailable rune doesn’t stack with the Nat AR+Worn AR of a ss’ressen in ss’ressen scale, then does that mean the elemental runes(fire, cold, etc) don’t stack?
Correct. The fire AR is attached to the armor and wouldn’t stack.

    Devin homework for you then

find an elemental spell that bypasses all armor instead of “worn armor”

I don’t think you will find one

Logical Answer: It’s Magic and that’s the purpose of elemental runes to protect against the elements.
Official Answer: The rules state this under the elemental runes worn on Armor and Shields.
“In addition, Runes bonus applies against spells that would ignore the target’s AR”

Didn’t have my book. @ work. So yeah, applies vs bypass.

I think part of the confusion is the unfortunate side effect of naming everything AR. The elemental is really more of a DR (Damage Reduction) from a specific source.

    Correct they do not stack..

but they DO save you from spells of that element which bypass worn armor

also if your base AR is lower.. and you get attacked by the element for which your rune is attuned.. the higher value kicks in
