I’m going to get a beautiful cloak brooch that makes people more open to speak to me. +2 Empathy.
Nothing can accomplish that
February 24, 2014 at 6:06 pm #257440AnonymousInactiveThe Borgase Brother’s Second Best Bag of Tools
Much like Indiana Jone’s hat. I walked in on the Borgase brother’s when I was younger. I was attempting to burgle the vulnerable parts of a patrician’s villa – picking up nick knacks and silverware. They were coming out of his double-secret deadly thief-proof vault they had just robbed. We almost bumped into each other. They ruffled my hair, laughed at my “equipment,” and gave me the tools they had when they were done since they had better equipment for “real jobs.” +2 on all Larceny skills.
June 10, 2014 at 8:53 am #262902frootsnaxParticipantI was going to go with +2 Larceny … but Tukufu increasingly does a lot of talking. I think I want a +2 bonus to persuasion but am having a hard time thinking of an object to reflect that. I am not interested in going the fancy clothes route.
Is it aiming too high to say you have a letter of introduction from the Council of Wisdom (or Felix or the Civic Government of Semar) asking the reader to offer all reasonable aid to the bearer?
April 14, 2015 at 2:02 pm #267316AnonymousInactiveOk, looking for feedback. I’m using one of the items for a Former Gladiator and want a +2 to Intimidate. I don’t want it armor related as I may swap that out. I was thinking something along the lines of a victor’s medal or something similar. Something that indicates he’s won gladatorial games, or something else. The character is a bit of a gentle giant (8’6″, might 9, “simple”), more along the lines of Lenny from Of Mice and Men or Fessik from the Princess Bride.
Thoughts, suggestions?

April 14, 2015 at 2:08 pm #267317AnonymousInactiveI also chose Intimidate for Leif, and decided to go with a bearskin cloak. For a gladiator you could easily go with some sort of animal hide, some sort of a studded leather harness, necklace of ears, etc. All depend on how creepy you want it to be.
Have you considered a Rudis? I don’t think that we have seen anything in the campaign to prove that they were awarded to gladiators, but given the history that Arcanis is based off of, I don’t think it is a big stretch.
April 14, 2015 at 2:16 pm #267318AnonymousInactiveSince you’re going to be simple, I think something that you entirely miss but everyone else gets is a good idea. Like a cloak of hair that you love because it is so many colors and is so soft, and some of it reminds you of your mama…. but you entirely miss its made out of humanoid scalps, though it is glaringly obvious to everyone else who sees it.
April 14, 2015 at 2:19 pm #267319AnonymousInactivePaul the problem I’m having is reconciling “gentle” with “intimidate.” He’s not bloodthirsty so it’s not like he would carrying a “trophy” from a fallen foe which would scare people. Fezzik was intimidating because of his size not from anything he carried. Onara is so large it’s hard to think of a medal from Grand Coryan carrying weight all over since there’s no modern media to broadcast the message. Of course if you’re willing to live with that and only have the effect work in a given country or region I can think of a few things. For instance some item that people would recognize indicating you survived in the ring with Chalandra the Castrator. For people who follow such things that would be impressive. Maybe an item made from the hide of an Agamassi Ss’Ressen? Those who know about these guys would find that impressive as well. In other words something that showed you fought something real nasty and lived to tell the tale.
April 14, 2015 at 2:24 pm #267320AnonymousInactiveI like the Rudis idea. As I recall one shows up in the movie Gladiator, one of my favorites and a good inspiration for Arcanis. I can’t help of thinking of Menesis val’Tensen when I see Russell Crowe at the beginning of that movie.
And there’s an officer/centurion in the opening scene who could pass for a val’Borda.April 14, 2015 at 2:31 pm #267323AnonymousInactiveHave you considered a Rudis? I’ve thought about it, but it doesn’t seem to fit. The rudis was typically awarded as part of emancipation from slavery and the character was never a slave. Arcanis has the drusus which was awarded to champion gladiators, but converted to current game terms it’s effectively an Exceptional gladius or perhaps better.
If a rudis wouldn’t necessarily imply having been a slave, that might be fine.

Good point. My description is a bit off. His natural demeanor is easy-going. Like the Hulk though, you don’t want to see him when he’s angry. Does that help?

April 14, 2015 at 2:56 pm #267327AnonymousInactiveWhat did you think about the suggestions I made? I especially like the Ss’ressen idea…maybe it could lead to your character and Matt’s character having a throw down. That could be fun. Otherwise I also like the “I was in the ring with Chalandra and lived to tell the tale…and with my manhood intact!” Boo Yah!!!

I think it’s workable. Perhaps something like:
This Champion’s chain features a head spine and claws of the Agamassi beaten to win the gladatorial games. Forged of gold and the steel from the creature’s bearded axe, it is both a beautiful and impressive design. Worn as a badge of honor by The Mountain, it is an elegant reminder of the prowess of this former gladiator.

April 14, 2015 at 6:23 pm #267329AnonymousInactiveMan if that do get Joe and Matt’s Agamassi worked up I don’t know what will!

If I go with that, let’s hope I don’t run into them any time soon. It won’t go well for me. I’ve at least seen the Bestiary write up for an Agamassi and as a T2 Large Martial Brute, I’m not there yet.

April 14, 2015 at 8:15 pm #267332AnonymousInactiveThat wouldn’t get us worked up. We understand that anything that is not Fang & Scale is trying to kill Fang and Scale. So, your boy fought in gladitorial bouts…how cute. Let me know how he does in the Blood Pits, then we can talk. But, if he chooses to get uppidity, so be it. I have waiting to try out a meat flank braised in a garlic and wine reduction. Alternatively, we have found that widow’s tears also make a fine substance to brine meat in.

lol. Cute, Matt. Unlike many gladiators, The Mountain doesn’t have an inflated ego or an over appreciation of his own abilities. He’s still alive and in one piece. That’s good enough for him.
