Arcanicon 2017!!!
Greetings friends and Arcaniacs! I am happy to announce that we have cleared the hurdles and can give information on Arcanicon 2017. It will be held March 10-12, 2017 at:
WYNDHAM GARDEN ROMULUS – Detroit Metro Airport
9191 Wickham Road
Romulus MI 48174To Reserve rooms: go to the hotel website at http://www.wyndham.com/hotel/48680 and using the group code ARCANI. You may also call 800-221-5801 and again use the code ARCANI for the special room rate. The rates should be:
Double room with Queen beds – $94
Double room with standard beds – $86
One King Bed – $86
Suite – $105To be clear, official games will be set for Friday and Saturday. Players are free (and encouraged) to organize self-run Open Library slots on Thursday and Sunday. The convention cost is $25 per person (cash), payable at door.
We will be attaching a googledoc link very soon for everyone to register for the convention itself. It is very important that players pre-reg as soon as possible so that we can project the amount of needed judges and if we can provide any extra benefits/swag to players.
Just like in years past, we are strongly encouraging everyone to utilize the hotel bar/restaurant for meals. This allows for a free meeting room and helps keep the cost of the convention down to a reasonable rate per person. Outside food and drink is not permitted in the meeting room due to hotel licensing. Complimentary breakfast is already provided by the hotel. The restaurant is not open for lunch, but we have arranged for a cash and carry lunch to be provided (with vegetarian and gluten-free options). When ordering meals or drinks at the hotel, please notify them that you are with the Arcanicon group.

Up until about 3 1/2 weeks ago, we were set for the same deal and location in Chicago. That hotel is under renovation and the hotel manager told the event planner that he could not offer us the same deal. They wanted $1500/day for the meeting room, which would have raised the per person cost for the convention to $75-$80. We did not feel this was acceptable and went into “scramble mode”. We looked at hotels in Chicago, Fort Wayne, Romulus, Indianapolis, and Columbus. Ultimately, we had to move things to the second weekend and change location to try and provide the most affordable option for all.

Its not Cabo or Maui, but I’ll dress warm and be happy to see everyone in Detroit.

December 9, 2016 at 1:51 am #274120AnonymousInactiveEveryone everyone! We now have a link for those who are intending to attend ArcaniCon 2017!
If you are planning on attending, please fill out the following questionnaire so we have a better idea of the number of people attending.December 9, 2016 at 5:15 pm #274130AnonymousInactiveJust to keep you all informed:
1) At present there are no particular plans to have the ArcaniCon adventures released for 5e players at ArcaniCon. Unfortunately, due to the effective doubling of the work-load and the lack fo manpower to meet it, it simply is not tenable to present both Arcanis Versions in the quality we’d like. As this convention has always been a fan-driven convention run by members of the Campaign Staff as opposed to an official PCI event, it was decided to focus on the traditional ARG system for the new material.
2) We are looking into the practicality of offering GM’d tables of 5e adventures at this convention, even if they are not the specific ArcaniCon events. There are some practical limitations and organizational work that will need to be done before we can specifically state that we will offer this support, but we are looking into it. By the time of ArcaniCon there should be some 15 converted Arcanis adventures available in the 5e system, including no less than the first 7 of the Coming of the Destroyer story arc adventures, which means there should not be a lack of material to present assuming we can organize these tables.
December 28, 2016 at 5:46 am #274246AnonymousInactivePlease remember to fill out the survey so we know that we actually have enough attendance to actually put this thing on!
January 2, 2017 at 6:02 pm #274265AnonymousInactiveJust a reminder for all of those who intend on attending ArcaniCon to fill out the survey as soon as possible! We require some firm numbers to plan this event, so please fill it out.
Additionally, if there are any players who wish to play 5e adventures during the event, we also have a survey for you! I am sorry to say that due to the scheduling there will not be much time to play both the ARG event and 5e adventures (alas, the event is only scheduled for Friday and Saturday, leaving little free time), but if there is sufficient interest in them we have GM’s and tables lined up to run these events!
January 7, 2017 at 10:47 pm #274267AnonymousInactiveJust out of curiosity and for the sake of conversation do we have any rough ideas of what to expect at Arcanicon 2017 in terms of mods and the special? There’s been some discussion about what the special might be last year but now that the con is nine weeks out I’m wondering what to expect.
January 8, 2017 at 2:44 am #274270AnonymousInactiveAt present, we are planning on presenting much the same format as before, with two 4-hour soft points and an 8 hour interactive event for the ARG rules, as well as organizing a Marketplace as per last year. We will also, assuming there are enough people, have GM’s available to run people through the 11 or so 5e adventures that will have been released up to that time.
As for the event, you all start by receiving an invitation to the city of Metra. . .
January 8, 2017 at 3:11 am #274271AnonymousInactiveMetra….hmmm that narrows down my list of possible characters. I’ll have to give this some thought.
It definitely won’t be any of my primary characters, Haakon and Ursula are busy elsewhere. I guess it will depend on the nature of the “invitation.”
Thanks for getting back on this so quickly. At present we are dealing single digit temps in Ohio, how are things in “the great white north?”

Funnily enough, the sender is listed as “Satrap Solumel of Eppion”. . .
January 10, 2017 at 12:44 am #274295AnonymousInactiveWell that pretty much narrows it down to Teonas Paclaroosh my Undir elementalist…
January 10, 2017 at 12:46 am #274296AnonymousInactiveCody will the two soft points have any relation to Metra? Or the Western Lands? Do we have any idea where they are set?
January 13, 2017 at 3:21 pm #274315AnonymousInactiveDoes Henry’s announcement yesterday have any effect on Arcanicon? My highest level character is 2.7 and I’m not all that keen on being forced to drag all my characters to Tier 3. I actually LIKE playing lower level mods, my favorite mods in Pathfinder are levels 1-5. Not sure that retiring the Crusade mods is the best idea but that’s a decision “above my pay grade.”
