@Akira – THe issue I have with the Master Smith option that you mention is that it would effectively take a character out of play. Such an apprenticeship would require a considerable amount of time to complete. If taken as a background, then what would be the real benefit? Crafting of items, etc is not supported by the campaign, so I don’t see it being worth the money spent.
Henry/other campaign staff,I meant to ask about this a while ago, and didn’t get around to it. The rules under Artisan seem fairly complete. I would agree that the campaign doesn’t make it easy to craft (I’d love to see something on CPs to record crafting more easily), your statement above seems to imply that we aren’t allowed to craft items.
If my Nol Dappan were, for instance, to craft himself a set of armour, with my roll observed by a GM, etc, would it not be campaign legal? I thought there had been a ruling earlier that PCs could create anything up to and including Exceptional items.
This is a bit of a concern as I was planning on having my ‘special item’ be a set of smith’s hammers.
The rules for Crafting specifically state the life of Heroes is not conducive to being a craftsman. However, assuming you could try, you’d have to make a LOT of rolls.
A Good suit of Heavy Armor is 2 weeks of work at TN 25, so that’s 14 rolls of which none can fail (or you add another day) and if you fail by 10 or more you have to start over. For a Fine suit of Heavy, it’s 3 weeks at TN 30 and for Exceptional, it’s a month at TN 35. Not sure how that would work out in the campaign.

I’ve been working on coming up with rules to submit to campaign staff for this that would allow crafty-types to make crafting rolls in place of Earn A Living, but with the removal of EAL it’s even more unlikely they’d be accepted.

At least that would make Artisan somewhat useful. Maybe they would consider something like that.

At one roll a day though, it might take quite a few modules to craft something.

January 12, 2014 at 8:55 pm #255140AnonymousInactiveIt’s still something. . .
I’d rather have the option to make a suit of armour over 10 mods than not have the option at all.

As long as they can’t be sold, it probably isn’t a huge issue for items to be crafted that way at 1 roll / adventure. After all it would take an entire story arc to craft an Exceptional Suit assuming no failures and no failures by 10.

I assume that the $10 add-on to create a “mundane item” is allowed only once per player, as opposed to “once per character”? (Or may we pay $10 per character to get an item for each?)

The mundane item is ‘one per character’, not one per player.

We might need to verify that as the Add-On is listed differently (Emphasis mine)
Create a mundane, but useful item that provides one Living Arcanis character with a +2 bonus to a non-Combat, non-Arcane skill.(Only one item can be assigned per character).

A character is not a player.
I don’t undertsand where the ambiguity is being read.

So, if I read the above correctly, we can, in fact, pay $10 per character to get an item for each character we have then. (We can take this “add-on” multiple times, once for each character we have.)

January 14, 2014 at 7:12 pm #255231AnonymousInactiveThat’s my read. You can have $200 of “special items”, with enough for 1 item for 20 characters if you wish!

Sorry, Henry, maybe I’m just being dense… I was trying to see if we could take the “add-on” multiple times (limited to one such item per character), or only once period.

You are correct, Sir.
Only one per character, but for as many individual characters as you have/will have.
That’s fine, Sean. No worries. I was trying to figure out where I was ambiguous, as I couldn’t see it, but you and John Bellando did. Just trying to learn from any mistakes.
Thank you!

No no no… thank YOU.

ps. It just might be a bad idea to mix my access to the internet with all the cough syrup I’ve been drinking these past few days… perhaps it’s making my thinker a little fuzzy… lol
