I didn’t find it ambiguous, I was clarifying Joe’s comment as he seemed to indicate that it was limited to one per player. However, I think I read his reply backwards \":)\"

Looks like everything got grabbed, though a seat at the second Arcaniac Extraordinaire II table has opened up…

I’m not sure how I feel about people having multiple pledge levels. From looking at comments on kickstarter and the backer list, it’s clear that there are people who have multiple accounts to get more then one pledge level.

Sure, I can see having two: one for a spot at a special table, and one for a special character. And sure, if people want to get all the add ons for special characters, that’s cool too.
But there are those who have multiple accounts to get multiple pledge level special characters.
I just feel like those people are hogging all the good stuff and so others loose out because of it.

I’m all for people throwing money at this. Both my fiance and I are each spending over $200, so if people want to spend all their money, that’s cool with me.
What bothers me is that with every new pledge level released I had to think to myself, which to I want more… my current level or this new level. There’s a choice there. And for someone to just get multiple accounts to grab it all and not have to decide… that feels very unfair to me. What if there are others out there, in the lower pledge levels who want to get a cool character but missed those release times?

I know I’m ranting here… and I know there’s not much that can be done about it. I guess I just want to see if anyone else is thinking this, or if I’m the only one.

For those people that missed out, I think the val’Vasik and Tultipetan special characters make great options. They both have enough flavor and backstory that they could have been pledge levels in their own right. I’m glad that Henry made them open to everybody so people that missed out on the various pledge levels can still walk away with a great special character opportunity.

But to answer your question about fairness, the setup was technically fair. There were no stipulations as to how many pledge levels 1 person (not account) can have. One can technically gift that special character to another at their own leisure or decide to keep a menagerie of special characters for themselves (whether there is ample adventures for each is a different story). Once something is purchased, it really should not be our business to determine how he/she goes about using it. Plus, some people have more ‘casual spending’ money than others so they can be more decisive in their purchases and not blink about choices or others. But that is modern life in a nutshell.

I too am of two minds about the people taking multiple special characters (not the Tultipetans or val’Vasiks). On one hand, it is super unrealistic that they will play their character in my mind as already most people have 1-3 current characters they’ve been leveling, which means that these characters may be taken out only for special occasions. This takes away from players who would actually USE these characters more often, and seems very unfair–even dickish–to me.

That being said, being a person who cannot afford any of the special characters, it does not actively affect me, and ultimately my personal wish is to see this Kickstarter succeed and for all the books listed on the stretch goals get funded. In that case, people wanting to throw scads of money at it, taking all the cool options only helps this goal.

Oh, how complicated our First World Problems have become!

    Hello,

I frankly don’t see having multiple accounts as an issue. Before you give the knee-jerk response of, “Of course, its more money for the project”, consider this:

What the Special Rewards were (after the initial offering) was posted in advance, so that anyone who was considering getting them, could make up their minds whether to keep their original pledge level or jump to another one. At least one poster said various times that he was not tempted by the new Special Levles and was keeping what he first chose.

I know from the reports I receive that a few others did indeed jump to different pledge levels.

Lastly,no one was given an early bird ticket to pledge before others could. Every had a fair chance and the luck of the draw, timing and their internet connection was probably the deciding factor in most cases.

I’m sorry you feel this way, but I really don’t think any unfairness or as Cody put it, dickish actions, were taken.

Henry and co have been very deliberate to make everything provided as fair and valued as possible. If you think back to the discussions around just expanding the number of different options like the Scions of Ven val’Sosi for example, I think that’s clear.

I would have to imagine that with the success of this Kickstarter there will be others in the future. I think they’ll consider limiting the number of special pledge levels per player, or at least requesting a reasonable delay in signing up for more than one. If there were special pledge levels still available after a week of being posted, I think most at least would agree that everyone had a fair chance to sign up for them.

With a sweep of his hat,

    Paul

As one of the “offenders” for multiple accounts and characters, I have to say that I plan on playing all of the characters I am getting so far (Brood of Uhxbractit, Bastard Daughter, Val’Sosi with Sc’math mount, Tultipetan Dwarf, and the Val’Vasik).

I only have 1 other character outside of these, so I am wanting to play new ones and these new ones in particular in the Blessed Lands. I likely will “gift” 1 or 2 to a couple of friends who I am hoping will join us all in Living Arcanis \":)\" More recruits! And if I can spend some money to get them something special to draw them in, then so be it \";)\"

Anyway, my 2 cents \":)\" Thanks to Henry and the PCI team and all the volunteers in advance for creating and managing such a deep, rich world and for making playing in the sandbox of Arcanis so much fun \":)\"

I’m kind of disappointed you didn’t give each of your new characters a land grant as well \":D\"

Trust me, I would if I could \":)\" And if it means pushing us over the hump to the Kio book at some point, who knows, at least one may get a parcel of land to farm . . . \";)\"

I think how PCI has done the Kickstarter has been very fair. They have announced new pledge levels well in advance and been very clear on what each entails. Unfortunately, it is always going to be such that limited resources means someone doesn’t get something. I think that the add-ons we have (and potentially other ones that PCI may come up with in the next 2 weeks) are great unlimited options for a lot of folks to get something special.

….and lets not forget there will be some very cool options as well in the Blessed Lands sourcebook, the whole purpose of the Kickstarter in the first place. \":D\"

    Indeed.
You summarized my thoughts quite well. I’m happy with the pledge level I have and I want us to get all the stretch goals, but I want to see all these special characters played, and not just some 4th or 5th character collecting dust.

I do agree with this sentiment, if you’ve purchased a special character, make sure you plan on playing it \":)\"
