A talent which may raise the CTN when casting a spell with a shield is not a bad idea…
:::thinks it over::::And dual wielders please!
hell no

I hope the potential CTN increase is pretty significant.
It would be a major advantage to have a combat effective defense/weapons in-hand and still have full casting.
Personally, I think an increase in Speed to the casting and next weapon swing feels more appropriate. Shield wielders should lose their shield bonuses until their next action.
If the ‘cost/increase’ is not pretty stiff, there is (again) even less reason to use anything but two weapons or a weapon/shield combo.\
get out of my head….
Adaptation: +3 CTN, +2 Speed, you lose all benefits of your shield for a number of ticks equal to the speed of the spell being cast
March 11, 2014 at 4:33 pm #258399AnonymousInactiveI said dual wielders please! No seriously, dual wielding is the worst fighting style you out there, if you are going to make a talent for the best fighting style (sword and board) then I don’t see why not TWF.

because you give up the avoidance bonus for a two-handed weapon……
a shield gives you weapon tricks and grants a bonus to avoidance…..

So it’s a minimum of 3 ticks to stow the shield and 2 ticks to ready it again? With tier 2 QuickDraw it would be +1 tick to stow, cast and +1 tick to ready again? Not too bad.

I’d like to see a talent that builds off of Battle Magi or something which allows you to use your Weapon Hand to perform Casting somatic components.

I may be missing something but can’t I do this already with Quick Draw Tier III and not suffer the CTN?
Tick 1: Quick Sheath shield as Trivial (+1), Cast Spell (Speed: X), Draw Shield as Trivial (+1) – Total Cost: Spell Speed +2 without CTN boost?

Fixed: I meant Quick Draw III

I like this except the speed seems like it should be +1 (the same as Quick Hands). With losing the shield bonus, personally, I’d even look at +0 speed (off the top of my head, I can’t think of any problems but there very well may be).
Also, I’d have to agree that I don’t see a reason not to allow this to apply to TWF (lose ability to off-hand attack and/or any benefits of off-hand weapon for speed of spell) as TWF really is sub-par for almost any character build.

at the cost of two talents, give and take.. you are still adding +2 to your speed.
but I may be willing to drop it to +1 speed

I am not sure there’s a limit other than what the GM says. At least I’ve not put a hard limit in my games unless it got ridiculous.
