Effect: During the Target’s ascent, at pace 60’ (Agile) the subject may take no actions, but he may act normally as he glides toward the ground at a pace of 30’ (clumsy). The subject of this spell may not regain or maintain altitude with this spell; he must fly toward the ground.
The spell’s recipient determines the distance ascended, to a maximum of 100 ft.

right this spell makes no sense… I have a skin in the game so I’m just going to throw this out there for discussion.

you fly up at 60 (agile), after which you glide toward the ground at a pace of 30′ (Clumsy)

    whats the issue?

really? “I fly up at 60′ “, does that mean I have to take movement actions or i just move up at 60′ per X ticks or what?

can i change direction, is this a short term fly spell or “hop” spell

clumsy means you have to move forward your entire speed or fall, how can i take other actions as the spell specifies.

My feeling is this spell should shoot you straight up into the air and let you hover downward with some lateral movement like gliding. If it’s allowed to be used to shoot people at any angle, it becomes a Tier II flight spell in essence, which when combined with casting it on others and being able to adapt it for re-casting at the apex, makes it very very powerful compared to the limited other ways to fly.

    As examples:
    1) Wings of the Fiend (Dark Kin Only) [Self] Requires Tier V – Requires 3 Talents, 1 Bulk (unabated) and allows once / scene for 12 ticks.
    2) Wings of the Valinor (Spell) [Self] Requires Tier IV – Binding with a 12 tick cast
    3) Shape Change (Spell / Psionic) [Self] Requires Tier III
    4) Bloodline of Wind (Osalikene Only) [Self] Requires Tier III – Requires 3 Talents, and allows once / scene for 24 ticks

Wow, the DarkKin version sucks! *pout*

Ok I think I see your issue here

you cast the spell.. you instantly (as part of casting the spell) fly upwards up to 60′ with (Agile) maneuverability, once you reach that apex.. unless you are on a solid surface you start to fly down at 30′ (Clumsy) you can still preform simple and trivial actions as you fly to the ground (such as grab onto something and the like) but you can’t, for example, cast spells down on your foes as you fall to the ground.

so what if i chose to go 100 (or adapt it to 130′)

and why does “act normally” turn into simple and trival actions

because flying at clumsy requires you to move every round.. the only thing you can do is move 30′ and preform a simple and trivial action.. part of clumsy flight

JohnSo does the Osalikene version. PoM has a monopoly on flight.

and this is why the spell needs re written / clarified because i dont pull that from the description and no one agrees on it

I’d gladly take the Osalikene version: Tier 3 for 24 ticks with Perfect Maneuverability at full pace vs.
DarkKin: Tier 5 for 12 ticks with Clumsy Maneuverability at Half Pace with Bulk 1

I think the clarification needs brought up for a) the ascent and b) the taking actions part of the descent. With clumsy maneuverability, you need to move your full speed to stay aloft, which means you can just move, move and do trivial/simple actions, or attack using manevuers that let you move your full pace (charge and it’s variants, passing strike).

Full disclosure: I want to be theere the first time Delbert uses Skywards and than dive bombs an opponent. Guarded Charge/Shield Slam? EPIC!!!!

Please let me be at your table as a player so I can cheer you on. I’ve benefitted from Skyward, but I still think it’s a bit much as written. However, I wasn’t aware how limiting Clumsy Maneuverability is, which makes the DarkKin Talent practically worthless at Tier V now.
