If you reduce the area, it needs something to allow a miss to do some damage.

How about similar to Castigate? Add an adaptation to add a d4 to the damage (Allowed multiple times to boost the die). That way if you’re using it offensively you have an option to do so.

Otherwise, using (Primary) makes sense with the decreased area to 10′

    Hell no,

Because it heals and damages in an area at the same time.. and can be coupled with a blessing

sooo your not making any change to channeling?

the caveat you put in there is already part of the rules…

    No no,

    I’m still thinking it over..

I’m tempted to change the healing and damage to (Primary) and lower the radius to 10′.. but in that case I would want to increase the spells speed.

one or two points of speed would be ok

By Increase, you mean make it slower to cast? Why would lowering the area and changing to (Primary) necessitate making it slower to cast?

because he is increasing the effect

because he is increasing the effect

In what way? The area is reducing (You are cutting the number of targets to 1/3 of the original spell), you’re not doing any damage on a miss now, the types of targets has decreased (though this was in effect just not well known previously). On the up side it’s now Primary so can explode.

So you are going from d8 (Average: 4.5) to Primary which is likely d10 (Average: 6 on exploding dice), getting 1/3 the targets you originally did, and no damage on miss. How is the effect getting a ‘net’ increase?

i was not talking about the area or number of targets, I was talking about the “Effect” which yes does have a net gain

Well Speed/Strain/CTN are based on the overall ‘effect’ of the spell, not just the “Effect” of the spell (here we go again with capitalization). Reducing the area and eliminating damage on a miss is reducing the ‘effect’ of the spell, while allowing the die to explode increases the ‘effect’. Overall, I’d say those are about the same though probably erring in the conservative side such that the speed could probably be reduced by 1 and still be good (It is a “Cant” afterall and those are supposed to be faster to cast anyways)

well on a spell that was too powerful to begin with i think your talking crazy john

we are talking about channel because its currently way too good

I disagree that with the changes it’s still “Too Good”. I think with the changes above, it’s fine with the current Speed (Strain). However, since I can’t cast it and don’t want to go back and forth rehashing the same argument with you over and over, I’m bowing out of the Channel Discussion.

    compare the spell to revitalize

    Yep.

    Revitalize:
    No restriction on Sect
    Heals d8 (Primary)
Has an adaptation to cast at a range/area
Has an adaptation to bump healing die

In any given group (That isn’t playing together all the time), you’re going to be able to effect about half the group max with Channeling.

    SPEED 7 spell interuptable

Yep and that doesn’t change regardless of all the adaptations you attach to it *shrug*. I leave Channel in your hands Josh. Tired of arguing, it’s putting me in a bad mood on a Friday.

    I’m out for the weekend!

    Ok…

making a call.. it may be an “Over Nerf” but its the easiest…

Simply changing the Area to Radius of 5′.. the stat-monkey has spoken nerf hammer used
