Tony N insinuated that there would be some errata for this, but i dont think it really needs eratta
March 12, 2014 at 3:36 pm #258672AnonymousInactiveProblem with it is that you con “compel” a player, NPC, or fellow party member to do WHATEVER you what, just by throwing cash at them.
The party has hit the moral grey of the mod. Player with corrupt doesn’t get a vote because another player throws sliver at them.
Arii has corrupt now from the cursed shield. I could effectively control her character with my 23 gold.
March 12, 2014 at 4:40 pm #258680AnonymousInactiveShe does? I have a few questions for her and some coin to spend, then…..
March 12, 2014 at 4:43 pm #258681AnonymousInactiveSeriously, though, I think you should need to make a Mettle(Re) check to not take the bribe. You could have a static number TN (not a fan), a check vs. the Hero’s own Discipline, or a scaling TN based on the amount of the bribe.
March 12, 2014 at 4:45 pm #258682AnonymousInactiveProblem with corrupt is that there are no guidelines. When is it acceptable to offer a bribe? How much is enough for a bribe? It says you can negotiate cost, but does that mean a player can just set a cost that is too high whenever he or she doesn’t want to do something?
Corrupt means you have become a thrall to coin, including other players.
I don’t think it is really about getting a check or not, but more about what situations are acceptable.
Betray my nation? Sure.
Betray my party? Whatever.
Betray my church? They don’t pay me enough anyways.March 13, 2014 at 4:07 pm #258825AnonymousInactiveare we tabling this for inclusion into campaign documentation?
March 13, 2014 at 4:10 pm #258828AnonymousInactiveI see no reason why this shouldn’t have a Mettle check to avoid similar to Bloodthirsty. it should target your own Discipline so it stays relevant.
March 13, 2014 at 4:14 pm #258833AnonymousInactiveMettle Vs your own Discipline seems to be a bad mechanic to me, the check gets harder the better your defenses get? that seems to be the opposite of whats desired really

But so can your Mettle. You’re mettle can go up 2-3 points a tier, your defenses likely go up 2 per tier. If you choose to neglect your Mettle score, then yes, as you get more powerful, bribes become harder to resist because it will get you more power! It makes sense to me. It’s also an option that allows a “chance” not to take a bribe which is more than they get today.

March 13, 2014 at 4:19 pm #258843AnonymousInactivei still dont think they should get any sort of roll, but instead “reasonable” bribe guidelines… all in all its a matter for the chronicler to decide

I *really* dislike “Chronicler to decide” for a flaw, sorry. Too much variance means at some tables you’re flaw is meaningless and at some it’s debilitating. I know I’m alone in this, but it’s my opinion.

Probably

On that note, I hope we are years away from 2nd edition. I think we could do with a “1.5 Rules Update” document but I don’t want a 2nd edition anytime soon.

March 13, 2014 at 5:06 pm #258867AnonymousInactiveFlaws are already bad enough, Pedro. Seriously? If you make them worst then people won’t take them.

JohnI’m afraid of a 1.5 document. Do you think it will go over well?

I actually think a “1.5 Rules Update” will go over very well if it:
1) Keeps the core of the system intact
2) Clarifies/Cleans up Character Building (Let’s face it, people rebuild their characters every now and again anyways, so this isn’t just going to be used for new characters/players)
3) Has Full Reprints of those rules that change (Talents, Spells, Maneuvers, Skills, etc.)
4) Clearly defines the purpose of the document to bring together all the errata and changes needed after 3 years of play.
5) Sold for around $5-$10 max for PDF.I don’t think a 2nd Edition of the rules would go over well if they are forced to buy a bunch of new books when some of the ‘promised’ ones haven’t been delivered yet.
